Harlem Stage

Harlem Stage is an artistic hub in Harlem, NYC that celebrates the artistic legacy of artists of African descent. In fall 2015, Harlem Stage made a commitment to growing two core areas of their work: education programs and community engagement.

We first led the strategic development of their education programs, designing education guides for arts programs, introducing HS staff to key stakeholders within the DOE, refining evaluation practices, and assessing their capacity to expand school partnerships.

To fulfill their second aim, community engagement, Create Forward’s Piper Anderson, facilitated a 9-month creative community think tank in 2016. Harlem based artists, educators, residents, and business leaders gathered monthly to explore the creative inquiry, What is the soundtrack to Harlem’s future? through dialogue and art-making. The think tank culminated in the production of an immersive performance event designed by Think Tank members at Harlem Stage.
