Humanities Action Lab
Is a coalition of 20 universities around the country who collaborate on the design of public humanities projects addressing urgent social issues. In 2014, they began developing “States of Incarceration” and Create Forward joined the design team to offer community engagement strategies that would ensure that the exhibit reached communities directly impacted by mass incarceration.
We provided community engagement training to HAL partners, designed an interactive dialogue driven launch weekend event at the New School, and continue to consult on ways to deepen engagement as the exhibit travels. Since the launch of “States of Incarceration” we’ve begun to partner with HAL to bring an innovative arts and design project called, Mass Story Lab to cities hosting the exhibit.
“States of Incarceration” is now traveling across the U.S to more than 20 cities and will reach at least 500,000 people.
